DAVIS, Joseph
May 28, 1837 - August 7, 1887

This notice appeared in what I believe was a Methodist Episcopalian Church,
 South church bulletin. It has been transcribed exactly as it was written.
There is one small area of the notice that is not legible to me so I have used a ?
 to indicate the unknown letters.

 DAVIS.-Joseph Davis, finished his course and entered the spirit land Aug. 7, 1887. He commenced life
 in Johnson county, Mo., May 18, 1837, and became a member of the Methodist Episcopalian Church, South,
 in August, 1867.

 Like Timothy, "from a child he knew the Holy Scriptures," which made him wise unto salvation. He loved
 the house of God, the place where his name is known, His presence is felt, His praise is heard, and His
 glory is revealed. He trusted in God and was not afraid." He called upon His name, and the Lord made known 
 unto him the hope of His calling and the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints." So the angel
 reaper found him ready. With him, "To be absent from the body was to be present with the Lord."

 In his death, a good citizen was taken, a useful member of the church was removed, kindly and devoted
 wife stricken, and a lovely family broken up. "What He does we know not now, but shall know hereafter.
 Now we know, in part, ???? then shall we know even as also we are known." There is comfort for you
 in those words.
